The log reflects the exhaustion of the Carpathia's wire operators (Cottam as well as Bride from the Titanic, on duty now on the rescue ship) as well as the willingness of the New York press to pay for stories. On the Carpathia, Ismay was said to be "under opiate." The Carpathia's captain, Henry Rostron, and the Olympic's captain agreed that it would not be a good idea to bring Titanic survivors to the Olympic, a virtually identical ship.
